ABOUT HIMED

himed was established in 1991 to provide calcium phosphate-based materials and coatings to the medical and dental implant markets. Our engineers formulated, produced, and characterized innovative, high-quality materials for this purpose. The first of these was a powder specially formulated to produce an uncommonly pure and highly crystallized hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on metal implants when applied using the thermal plasma spray process.

Since then, himed has tailored numerous materials and processes to provide specific biochemical and physical properties, such as solubility rate, composition, surface area, and texture. Customers can choose from a broad array of existing products, or work with HiMed's materials engineers to develop a product that meets their requirements.

himed has worked to advance the leading edge of coating characterization techniques by developing a new method for accurately determining the chemical composition of calcium phosphate materials using X-ray diffraction data, as well as a method for fast, accurate, non-destructive X-ray diffraction of coated dental implants.

As clinicians gain access to more complete analytical information, they will be able to further refine biomaterial specifications. Having pioneered the analytical methods and developed materials for providing controlled composition coatings, we believe himed will be well positioned to meet the demand as material specifications become tighter.
