This symposium provides attendees with an overview of medical implant surface treatment technologies and future advancements, including coatings and specialized texturizations. Case studies will be presented for both dental and orthopedic applications. The topics covered in the symposium will include:

• Micro- and nano-particles developed to obtain injectable systems for controlled and sustainable release of drugs and bioactive molecules

• Hydrogels for drug and cell delivery

• Nanofibre-based biomaterials obtained by electrospinning

• Hydrogels with specific biofunctionalization

• Scaffolds and other biofunctionalized substrates

• Surface patterning to generate and explore specific functionalities or to self-assembling systems following bottom-up strategies as analogues of the biological processes
